Bepridil hydrochloride hydrate

Effects of This Medicine +
・This medicine improves the symptoms of sustained atrial fibrillation and tachyarrhythmia (with increased pulse rate) by suppressing the abnormal contraction of heart muscle. It also improves angina symptoms by stretching vessels of heart to increase blood circulation.
・It is usually used to treat sustained atrial fibrillation, tachyarrhythmia (ventricular) and angina.
Dosing Schedule (How to Take) +
・Sustained atrial fibrillation: In general, for adults, start with 1 tablet (50 mg of the active ingredient) at a time, twice a day. If the effect is insufficient, the dosage may be increased up to 4 tablets (200 mg) in 2 divided doses a day. The dosage may be decreased according to the age or symptoms.・Tachyarrhythmia (ventricular) and angina: In general, for adults, take 2 tablets (100 mg of the active ingredient) at a time, twice a day. The dosage may be adjusted according to the age or symptoms.
・In any case, strictly follow the instructions.
・Blood test is performed before using this medicine.
・If you miss a dose, take the missed dose as soon as possible. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and follow your regular dosing schedule. You should never take two doses at one time.
Before Using This Medicine +
・If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines or foods.
・If you have: congestive heart failure, impulse conduction disorder (atrioventricular block, sinoatrial block, bundle branch block, etc.), sinus bradycardia (slowing of the heart rate), QT prolongation, heart disease (myocardial infarction, valvular disease, cardiomyopathy, etc.), ventricular dysfunction, hypotension, electrolyte abnormality (decreased serum potassium level, decreased magnesium level, etc.), U wave, subarachnoid bleeding, intracranial bleeding, renal dysfunction or liver dysfunction.
・If you have structural heart disease (ischemic heart disease, cardiomyopathy, etc.) (in case of sustained atrial fibrillation).
・If you are pregnant, possibly pregnant or breastfeeding.
・If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)
Precautions While Taking +
・Periodical tests of electrocardiogram, pulse, blood pressure, cardio-thoracic ratio, etc. are performed while using this medicine. Blood test is also performed if necessary. This medicine is started at a low dose and electrocardiogram is frequently measured especially in patients with underlying diseases such as myocardial infarction, valvular disease or cardiomyopathy, elderly patients and patients taking other antiarrhythmic medicines.
・Since interstitial pneumonia (cough, shortness of breath, breathing difficulty, fever) may occur while using this medicine (especially within 4 months after starting this medicine), periodical tests including Chest X-ray are performed.
・Since there has been a report stating that symptoms worsen after sudden discontinuation of calcium antagonist, do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor instructs you to do so.
・This medicine may cause dizziness. Pay attention when you operate dangerous machinery such as driving a car.
Storage Conditions +
・Keep out of reach of children. Store at room temperature (1 to 30 degrees Celsius), away from direct sunlight and moisture.
・Discard the remainder. Do not store them. If you don't know how to discard, consult your pharmacy or medical institution about how to discard them. Do not give this medicine to anyone else.
