Effects of this medicine
・This medicine enhances the effects of serotonin that regulates the action of neurotransmission in the brain and shows antidepressant and anxiolytic actions. This medicine improves symptoms including depressive mood, sudden intense anxiety, obsession and excessive tension in front of others.
・It is usually used to treat depression/depressive state.
Dosing schedule (How to take this medicine)
・In general, for adults, take 12.5 mg of paroxetine at a time, once a day, after dinner as an initial dose. The dosage will be increased to 25 mg/day taking over 1 week. Dose increase should be adjusted in 12.5 mg/day increments at intervals of at least 1 week: however, it may be adjusted according to the age or symptoms, up to a maximum of 50 mg/day. This preparation contains 6.25 mg of paroxetine in a tablet. Strictly follow the instructions.
・In general, 6.25 mg tablets are used for dose reduction or cancellation.
・This medicine is an enteric-film-coated controlled-release tablet. Swallow it without chewing, splitting or crushing.
・If you miss a dose, take the missed dose as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and follow your regular dosing schedule. You should never take two doses at one time.
Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist
・If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines or foods.
・If you have: manic-depressive illness, suicidal ideation, organic brain disorder, predisposition to schizophrenia, highly impulsive complication, glaucoma, bleeding tendency, bleeding diathesis, QT prolongation, cardiac disease or renal or liver disorder.
・If you have had: suicidal ideation, suicide attempt, epilepsy, QT prolongation or cardiac disease.
・If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
・If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)
Precautions while taking this medicine
・This medicine may cause sleepiness, dizziness, etc. Pay close attention when operating dangerous machinery, such as driving a car.
Patients with depression or depressed state may sometimes feel like dying. While taking this medicine, especially at the start of the medication or at the time of dose change, worsening of symptoms, such as increased anxiety or thoughts of dying, may occur. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor.
・This medicine may cause symptoms such as anxiety, irritability, feeling rushed, tendency to excite, going into a panic spasmodically, change in mental or physical condition due to slight irritation, hostility, acting aggressively, acting impulsively and unable to remain still. ・If any of these signs occur, consult with your doctor. Among patients experiencing such symptoms, although causal relationship with this medicine is unknown, worsening of their chronic disease such as depression or suicidal thoughts and harming others may occur.
・Increased suicide risk in young adults (18 to 30 years old) who used this medicine, particularly among those with major depressive disorder, is reported. If you feel like dying, receive a full consultation with your doctor.
・Avoid drinking alcohol while taking this medicine, since it may intensify medicinal or medical effects.
・Pay attention when taking any food containing St. John's wort (a kind of herb), since it may intensify medicinal effects.
